Photography Studio 1

For this assignment I wanted to limit myself to taking photos of things that had to do with cars only. That being license plates parking signs, and car models.  I cropped everything in vertical fashion and stiches them together into this even square structure that I find compelling. It is meant to invite the user in nice and close to figure out what is even going on. I love it.

Ryan Reeves Vs Marcus Foligno  By: Aaron Levinsky/Star Tribune I want to discuss this photo as I think it really demonstrates that sports photography is an art form. Think of the luck that Aaron Levinsky would have to get a fight to break out right beside where he is perched and he had to have the right lens on a the perfect time which is crazy as so many sports photographer are using telephotos. This photo captures the perfect moment of a spirited hockey scrap against two of the toughest guys to play the game and it is beautiful. Even not as a huge sports fan (other then the Calgary Flames) this photo caught my eye. I've never seen a hockey photo shared all over the internet and on the front of every page for a week, it was insane.  It united hockey fans, photographers, and artists alike just based on the pure composition and timing that this photo displays.  Some of my favourite shots all captured on the Fuji Film X-100v by Austin Knibb  Technical Assignment (behind the scenes) My thought process behind my photos in this project were a little bit different then typically what you would expect in a still life. In terms of objects I didn't have a lot of very colourful things/interesting things in my home as lot's of my items are camera gear and tech stuff that is very metal looking. To analyze the way colour modulates images I wanted to go downtown Lethbridge and use the buildings to test how different colours would react in film. Also being downtown gave me a nice grungy style that I appreciate with the dead planters and leaves all over the place.  Shooting the city was really exciting and interesting with film especially on the day we chose as It was very overcast and moody outside. Exhibition Reflection Kort Woycheshin This was my first ever exhibition here at my time at the University. It was an incredible experience and opened my eyes to a lot of the intricate parts of setting up an exhibition. Generally I had never considered the layout of the exhibition other than gallery standard height and spacing. The formation we used for this lent itself to the wackiness of pinhole photography and the trial and error methodologies that imply themselves onto pinhole photography. We tried many different formations and near the end of it we started getting to the point where we would look at a print and decide where it fits based on natural intuition; I love this style of art when you make objective choices based on a gut feeling and doing things just because they look 'nice.'   Pinhole Photography Assignment Reflection Overall I enjoyed the assignment and felt that I learned a handful about the photographic process and gained a new appreciation for photography. My mind was blown by how simple yet complex a pinhole can be and that essentially anything can be a pinhole camera. The photos you get when using a pinhole camera have such a unique look, and I think that's what I like most about pinhole. The grunginess of the photos really leans itself to my style of photography; people often will use photoshop to get this look, but though trial and error, pinhole just does it for you. In conclusion, I would happily do pinhole again and think I could vastly improve upon my previous designs and photos with the knowledge I gained during this assignment.  "Where my eyes cannot go"  For this photo, I was inspired to try and replicate what it might look like if you could see through the world and everyone walked on glass. "Organic Growth" By: Kort Woycheshin For the diptych, I used a Sony A7IV, 85mm f1.8 lens, and a tripod to take these photos. These photos are located in a small wetland near the university that gave for very interesting organic growth. I wanted to respond to "I/You" by placing myself in the field similar to a tree and to resemble the growing stages of my life that I am currently going through. The sun was shining through another section of trees which gave the tree a very pleasing glow to it and I wanted to juxtapose that by wearing all black. I wanted both of these photos to be centre framed to try and give the viewer a sense of similarity and belonging when viewing the photos side by side. The contrast between these two images is meant to show growth happens in different ways and at different stages.
