Final Project: Making A Scene
I used a fog machine to get a sense of depth and density in the air that I so enjoy of Crewdson's work, I think I could use a 10% diffusion filter on the lens to get a similar look if I didn't have access to the fog. To take the shot I had a live feed streaming to my phone under the bed so I could dial my settings and set up a timer.
My post production process included Lightroom and photoshop to get the look that I wanted. I began in photoshop with the removal of the fog machine using the clone stamp tool and I think it's pretty realistic. I then did a lot of dodge and burning to accentuate things about the photo I liked. The book and the bag received a heavy dodge to draw attention to that area. Leah received a a dodge as well to bring detail into her clothing and pose. I also burned some of the lighting to just soften the appearance subtly. In Lightroom I did a lot of work with colour to achieve the cinematic quality that I wanted. I warmed the photo slightly and added a subtle green tint. What made the photo was adding some dark blue into the shadows and a little orange/pink into the highlights (similar to a teal and orange look I'd say.) I used a lot of liner gradient masks to draw the viewer into the centre and one radial mask I the centre to slightly brighten the centre content of my image. Funny enough I this project I accidentally created a relationship triangle composition which I am very pleased with but wasn't thinking about at the time.
All in all I am immensely proud of this final product and can't wait to print it large.
